Welcome to Lincoln County Colorado, where you will discover
for yourself, what’s really important as you travel the
historic trails of the Central Plains Region. In the early
days, travel by horseback was the only way. But, as the
nation began its journey westward, the rough trails were
replaced by railroad tracks. All along the way, small town
were formed.
Limon Junction began as a work campsite in
1888. Now, Limon is home to the Heritage Museum and Railway
Park. The historic depot and museum complex is a tribute,
not only to railroad history, but also to the pioneer spirit
of the people who homesteaded this land. This is your opportunity
to discover a different way of life.
Nearby, Hugo rests
along the old trail between two historic train stations,
and is the county seat of Lincoln County. Hugo was settled
in the early 1870’s. Headland House Museum, which is staffed
entirely by volunteers, was built in 1877. Step back in
time and experience what life was like in the “olden days”.
Visit the old round house, which is on the list of Colorado’s
most endangered placed.
Recreation is plentiful in Lincoln
County. Walk the trails or just gain some quite time, hit
a few balls on the nearby golf course or explore a bit.
You will encounter some unexpected and rare sites along
the way. Whimsical and strange, the tower museum in Genoa
is truly a vintage tourism experience not to be missed.
Whether you’re roughing it, traveling in your own “house
on wheels” or enjoying the benefits of a bed and breakfast…you’ll
have everything you need as you travel the wide-open spaces.
You’ll realize that it’s “easier to see what’s important”
