The past comes alive in Kit Carson County Colorado. Visit
Old Town Museum and experience life as it was during the
settling of the Eastern Plains. This 6-½ acre historical
complex contains 21 restored buildings furnished with authentic
artifacts from the turn of the century. Old Town offers
visitors a look at “life in the past lane”. During the summer
months you can watch the cancan dancers in the saloon, enjoy
an old-fashioned ice cream treat in the Soda Fountain, and
ride the horse-drawn Old Town Express to the Carousel on
the weekends. The Old Town General Store has souvenirs and
something for everyone. The fully restored Kit Carson County
Carousel features hand-carved and painted wood animals crafted
by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company in 1905. The whimsical
creatures dance to the tunes of the Wurlitzer Monster Military
Band Organ during the summer season. This national historic
landmark, located at the fairgrounds, is truly one of America’s
jewels.
While in Burlington, stop and see the “All Veteran’s
Monument”, at the VFW Post 649, honoring all veterans who
have served in the Armed Forces of the United States of
America. A Cobra helicopter, acquired from the Department
of Defense, crouches on a stainless steel pedestal above
the monument. Burlington has beautiful parks, a pool, walking
trails, a golf course and numerous recreational opportunities.
The Central Plains of Colorado hold a magic all their
