The past comes alive in Kit Carson County Colorado. Visit Old Town Museum and experience life as it was during the settling of the Eastern Plains. This 6-½ acre historical complex contains 21 restored buildings furnished with authentic artifacts from the turn of the century. Old Town offers visitors a look at “life in the past lane”. During the summer months you can watch the cancan dancers in the saloon, enjoy an old-fashioned ice cream treat in the Soda Fountain, and ride the horse-drawn Old Town Express to the Carousel on the weekends. The Old Town General Store has souvenirs and something for everyone. The fully restored Kit Carson County Carousel features hand-carved and painted wood animals crafted by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company in 1905. The whimsical creatures dance to the tunes of the Wurlitzer Monster Military Band Organ during the summer season. This national historic landmark, located at the fairgrounds, is truly one of America’s jewels.

While in Burlington, stop and see the “All Veteran’s Monument”, at the VFW Post 649, honoring all veterans who have served in the Armed Forces of the United States of America. A Cobra helicopter, acquired from the Department of Defense, crouches on a stainless steel pedestal above the monument. Burlington has beautiful parks, a pool, walking trails, a golf course and numerous recreational opportunities.
